The dog walker would begin his daily life "by permitting himself to be pulled through Manhattan by several large charging animals." Times staff photographer Neal Boenzi captured him in and around Central Park as he attempted to persuade "several hundred pounds of dog flesh" by tugging the reins and issuing occasional vocal commands. Times reporter Gay Talese compared him to Charlton Heston in a chariot-racing scene from "Ben-Hur."
